I hate the NFL Draft. I could care less about the NFL and it’s still completely disrupting my Suns-watching experience (and if you must know, it’s because I am a Broncos fan [and I use fan in the absolute loosest sense of the word, as I watch the occasional game but am not the passionate fan I was in the halcyon days of Shanny and Elway and Rich Karlis' Bare Foot] and I am taking all kinds of shit via the text message about the Broncos drafting Tebow. I don’t care about football, but I know a couple of things: I hate Josh McDaniels and Tim Tebow will not be good in the NFL. Prove me wrong, JesusFreak).
Anyway, here’s what I know so far:
- This game looks an awful lot like Game 2 so far. With Game 1 and Game 2 having been so different, all the chatter was asking whether this game would be like Game 1 or 2. The Lady (!) dekko said we’d prolly get a game that was nothing like either of the first two. So far, it’s Game 2.
- I dug Alvin’s timeout when the Blazers got back-to-back buckets. I think that’s some excellent coaching right there…when you’re on the road in what can be an extraordinarily hostile environment, and you have a 14-point lead, and the home team starts making even the slightest of comebacks, you take that timeout and STOP the momentum NOW. Stop the team, stop the crowd. Good to go.
- Juwan Howard is getting a lot of minutes so far. That’s not gonna be good for Portland…that’s not gonna be good for anybody.
- Wow. 34-16 at the end of 1. The Suns shot 61.9% in the quarter to the Suns 30.4%. Neither of those numbers is sustainable. The Suns are getting to the line (11 FTA in the quarter). The Blazers are not (2 FTA). This is Suns basketball, people. That Rose Garden crowd is quiet. Let’s see what happens…see you at halftime.
