Oh yes, my friends. It will be glorious.
That’s to be expected, after all, with the Blake Griffin Experience in town. Griffin is (rightfully) associated with high-flying highlights, including such masterpieces as the Baptizing of Mozgov:
And the Summiting of Mount Marcin:
On the Suns’ side of the ball, Steve Nash’s passes are spectacular in their own right, and we should get plenty of them tonight. 60% of Clippers opponents’ field goals are assisted on the year, a mark that’s seventh-worst in the league.
Unfortunately, we may not get as many dunks as we’d like to see; the Suns give up the third-fewest attempts at the rim per game, and the Clippers are sixth. On the bright side, those SMASHES that we do see stand a decent chance of coming on eyeball-rattling alley-oops. Both teams are in the bottom third of the league in opponent assist rate on attempts at the rim at just over 55%. On the flip side, 58% of Phoenix’s lay-ups and dunks are assisted on the year (2nd in the league), and the Clippers rank 8th at 55.4%.
In a battle of two equally-ineffective defenses, the impetus is on Phoenix’s efficient offense to exploit the Clippers’ poor defense and loose rotations. Expect a fun one, and pray for Gortat. By the end of the night, he may be forcibly converted to the Orthodox Church of Ginger-dunks.
