Marcin Gortat played 41 minutes last night. That should be a telling stat, coming into the wrong end of the back-to-back. On the other hand, so should be the Wizards 7-24 record, including an absolutely terrible 3-12 on the road. The Wizards are just a bad team. A very bad team. And the Suns can win this as long as they don’t let John Wall and Nick Young kill them, which might be a lot to ask.
Nick Young is a black hole on offence, but the Suns seem to have a tendency to allow black holes to exist. See: Jamison, Antawn. And if the Suns allow the scorer to score, John Wall might just get in rhythm. With the way this Suns team has been defending penetration, a failure to contain the young point guard seems very likely.
The question is, will the other Wizards step up? JaVale McGee is streaky, and not really good in individual defence, in which he will have to excel against the Nash-Gortat pick and roll. That, and he runs back on D while his team still has the ball. The rest of the team is… Well.. Inept.
The question for today? Can the Suns stay fresh after a great victory. I say yes, but they might say no.
