RICKY RUBIO VS STEVE NASH!
THE POINT DIOS VS THE ORIGINAL POINT GOD!
MARCIN GORTAT VS NIKOLA PEKOVIC
Welcome to the battle of two teams with two quite different trends. The Suns going down, the T-Wolves going up. The Suns with their aging point guard, and the Wolves with their up-and-comer. The Suns with one of the most annoyingly incompetent PFs in the game, and the Wolves with possibly the best PF in the game. See where this is going? The only similar trend here are the centers, two bearded, pretty scary Europeans who are pretty damn good in the pick and roll.
The Wolves are coming off a weird stretch, on the back end of a back-to-back-to-back, with the two first games coming in LA. First, they win with the Clippers through the exploits of Michael Beasley and Derrick Williams, to go on and blow it against the Lakers. Now, tonight the Wolves will face a very rested Suns team. A rested and annoyed Suns team, after all, Alvin Gentry went off on an absolutely insane rant in his postgame presser and the locker room got a similar treatment. The players also held a players-only meeting and came out of it with their heads up. Now, while I know Steve and Marcin will pull through and feed off the energy, I’m not sure about the others. I really don’t expect Channing Frye to play well. But then again, I never expect him to play well.
The problems are aplenty. Who guards Kevin Love? Who stops Pekovic if it is Gortat? Can the bench hang with Beasley and D-Dub? Can anyone really do anything defensively? Can Steve Nash outplay a very defensively sound (and pesky) point guard in Rubio?
This game is going to come down to a few moments, believe you me it will. The Wolves have the better coach, more good players, and the only thing that is holding them down is fatigue. Do you really think that the Suns, in all their struggles will be able to use that? I sincerely doubt that.
So many questions… So many doubts… So much potential for frustration.
Ladies and gentlemen, the Suns are back.
