The Suns’ have been somewhat linked to James Harden for quite sometime when it comes to trade talks and rumors. Harden’s contract with the Thunders expires at the end of the 2012-2013 season and he’ll become an restricted free agent.
Harden spent 2 years at Arizona State and his mother also lives in Arizona. When asked whether or not Harden would consider signing with the Suns at the end of the season he said “Yeah,”. “Off course. I love it there. My mom lives there still. so that’s definitely my second home as far as my comfort level and going to school there. But obviously, I’m with the Thunder right now and what we have is special.”
Harden had a breakout year last season winning the 6th man of the year award, and with fellow teammate Serge Ibaka’s contract also expiring at the end of the season; the Thunders have got things to figure out. Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant are both on the books for roughly 35 million dollars next season, Harden and Ibaka are also likely to command between 10-14 million annually after this year. The Thunders are a small market team and it’s unlikely they’ll be ready to pay that hefty luxury tax.
The Thunders will definitely keep one of those two guys although they’ll definitely try their best to retain both. However it’s very possible for Harden to be wearing another uniform after this season. If James Harden somehow someway finds his way to Phoenix, the Suns will be one huge step closer to being an elite team again.
