When the Suns lost Steve Nash and Grant Hill not only did they lose two great players but they lost two veteran leaders. This year’s Suns team isn’t one that Suns fans are accustomed to seeing, a young, and inexperienced team that’s trying to find their places. Every team needs a leader but who will lead the Suns into battle?
Well Jared Dudley spoke out by saying “Being a leader is natural to me,” Dudley said. “Sometimes you can do it different ways. For me I want to be a voice and consummate professional, be in the weight room and stay after practice. When things go wrong, that’s when you show your leadership. It’s easy to be a leader when things are going well.” So will JYD be able to be the leader of this young Suns team? Dudley has always had a leadership in the Suns locker room, even when Nash and Hill were aboard. Dudley’s sense of humor, voice, and optimism will allow him to become a fine leader.
Another candidate could be former Houston big man Luis Scola who along with Manu Ginobili are leaders of the Argentinian national team. However it’s unlikely Scola has a strong voice to start out given that he’s new to the team and is inexperienced in the Suns system.
The Suns are certainly in need for a leader, whether it may be Jared Dudley, Luis Scola or anyone else it almost doesn’t matter. The Suns will need that one guy to calm everyone’s nerves when thing aren’t going well, as a young players they’ll need someone to be the rock throughout a season that’s going to be full of ups and downs, and they’ll need someone who can pick up guys when their down.
