Welcome back Suns & Suns fans! It’s been exactly 160 days since you last saw your Phoenix Suns out on the court; well the Suns 2012-2013 officially begins on October 2nd which is the first day of training camp down in San Diego but the Phoenix Suns media day begins tomorrow.

Tomorrow is media day which is a day where all the Suns players and coaching staff will answer much of the questions asked by the media regarding your Phoenix Suns. All the Suns players and coaching staff will also be posing for team pictures but of course most of you aren’t really interested in that.

There have been a lot of changes for the Suns this off-season between the newly acquired players, a brand new basketball court and new jerseys which won’t be used this season but most likely the next one; I’m going to be honest, it’s going to feel weird when I’m watching a Suns game this season and that iconic giant flaming basketball logo with “PHX” Written across it isn’t going to be in center court.

Heading into training camp a lot still remain undecided for the Suns, most importantly their starting line-up. The topic of the Suns starting line-up has been a hot topic here on the site as most of you disagree with my opinion of Michael Beasley not being the immediate starter, but apparently John Hollinger of ESPN.com agrees with me as in the profile he did on the Phoenix Suns players, he projected Shannon Brown as the starter and not Beasley. So it’s pretty clear at this point those two guys will have to play it out in training camp and preseason in order for Alvin Gentry to decide which of those two guys will get to start on opening night.

However another battle will be going on in training camp between 2012 lottery pick Kendall Marshall and Sebastian Telfair for the back-up point guard spot behind Goran Dragic. Telfair showed he can be productive as a back-up however Marshall is still a lottery pick and it’s unlikely that the Suns drafted him to have him hangout on the bench.

One more interesting topic is the Suns overall offense. Alvin Gentry has had the privilege of having one of the greatest point guards of all time running his up tempo offense but now that Steve Nash is gone, what’s the Suns offense going to look like? Should Gentry focus on a slower pace basketball which puts more emphasis on scoring through Luis Scola and Marcin Gortat or is Gentry going to continue to push the ball and try to put up 110 points every game?

The Suns have struggled with their identity pretty much since their playoff run back in 2010 and this year will be no different. With the addition of all the new Suns players Gentry and his coaching staff will have their hands full. Good news for the Suns is that they have exactly 30 days to work all this out before opening night on October 31st where they’ll host the Golden State Warriors at the U.S Airways Center. The Suns will play their first preseason game on October 10th at Sacramento against the Kings.

Shannon Brown as a small forward? Give me a break. Even John Hollinger is nuts sometimes

@facebook-1557643387:disqus No Fabian, keep in my the Suns has Jared Dudley in their starting line-up who can play both wing positions which gives Gentry the freedom to start either a shooting guard OR a small forward as he can slide Jared Dudley to the corresponding position of whoever he may decide to start. Clearly a 6’4 Shannon Brown won’t have a lot of success as a small forward.
