As expected the Phoenix Suns announced a new head coach on Sunday and as expected the new head coach will be Lindsey Hunter(Sorry Thunder Dan).
Hunter will be replacing Alvin Gentry at the head coaching position, Gentry was fired by the Suns on Friday morning after the Suns lost to Milwaukee Bucks at home on Thursday; it was Milwaukee’s first win in Phoenix since February 21st 1987.
“After listening to the players we decided to bring in Lindsey Hunter as the interim head coach.” ~ GM Lance Blanks
Hunter was hired by the Suns last season to be part of the Suns scouting department and was then promoted to the head of the players development program this off-season.
With Hunter being promoted to the position of head coach, the Suns will need to seek a replacement personnel for Hunter’s previous position which was the head of the player’s development program.
Another new development now, according to Paul Coro of the Arizona Republic, both Dan Marjele and Elston Turner were not spotted at Lindsey Hunter’s first practice despite that, Suns GM Lance Blanks assured the public that all assistant coaches were given the chance to return to the sidelines.
At this point, aside from Lindsey Hunter, former Phoenix Sun, Dan Marjele was a very popular choice to replace Gentry both among fans and certain players; not to mention my own.
With Hunter taking over the head coaching position at this stage during the season, expectations are minimal. However the Suns are finally taking their first steps away from the glory days of the mid-late 2000′s, away from the Steve Nash era, and away from the run-n-gun offense.
