Marcin Gortat underwent an MRI earlier today and it revealed that Gortat has a sprained right foot which will require him to wear a cast, and it’s expected that he’s going to be out 3-4 weeks.

“I definitely felt a pop in my foot and I knew right away it wasn’t my ankle, just my arch,” Gortat told ArizonaSports.com . “Obviously, I’ve got a big bruise and pain, but the pain killers they gave me are pretty cool, so I hope I am going to get more of those.”

Paul Coro of the Arizona Republic tweeted this moments ago:

“A dejected Marcin Gortat will have sprained foot in a cast for 3 weeks and doubts that he will play again for the this season.”

Foot injuries are one of the worst injuries that could happen to NBA big guys; just ask Yao Ming. Gortat skepticism towards whether or not he’ll play again this season is a rather reasonable one. The Suns have just 21 games remaining this season, and with Gortat projected to be out roughly four weeks, he’ll likely return after the first week of April and from that point on, the Suns will only have five-games remaining on the season.

As Jermaine O’Neal is still with his daughter after she underwent open heart surgery just yesterday, and now that Gortat is out as well, it’s very likely that Hamed Hadaddi, Markieff Morris, or perhaps even Luis Scola will play extended minutes at the center position for the time being.

When the Suns take on the Sacramento Kings tomorrow night, it will be the first game Marcin Gortat has missed due to injury since November 16th 2009, back when he was with the Orlando Magic; he missed that game with a flu.
