Everything is happening according to the plan . . . What plan includes going 1-2 throughout the week and that’s OK? The Suns plan for a bright future for the franchise, that’s what.
Phoenix happened to walk on that tightrope of losing to everybody but the Los Angeles Lakers that will gift them a great draft pick in the off-season.
Last week, the Suns lost four in a row, making it seem impossible to grab a win from any team, even if the opponent was an NBA cellar-dweller. However, the men in orange had the rivalry flowing through their veins and found a way to “Beat LA” in a 23-point drubbing.
After that, Phoenix got back into the losing business, dropping games to two terrible teams in the Washington Wizards and the Minnesota Timberwolves. I keep reiterating it but, each loss this season is horrible for team morale, and it gets the players, coaches, management and fans frustrated and despondent, but is ultimately putting and keeping the franchise on a positive trajectory for the future.
Currently, the Suns are tied with the Detroit Pistons for the fourth-worst mark in the league with a 23-47 record. Cleveland is a half a game behind them, followed by Orlando and Charlotte 4.5 and 5 games back respectively.
Phoenix currently has a 13.7 percent at getting the number one pick in this year’s NBA draft according to ESPN’s Lottery Mock Draft.
This week the Suns face the Brooklyn Nets, Utah Jazz, Sacramento Kings, and Indiana Pacers. Phoenix needs to lose these games to get a better lottery position, but especially to the Jazz to FORCE Utah to win games to keep the Los Angeles Lakers out of the postseason.
This would give the Suns another draft pick that could be spent on another game-changing player for the future of the franchise.
