Height: 6’3”

Weight: 197 lbs

Wingspan: 6’6.25”

Max Vertical Leap: 38.5”

NBA Comparison:

Andre Miller. Both players are about the same size and are known for their craftiness out on the court and especially around the basket. Neither one is known for amazing speed or athleticism, but they both have hesitation moves and changes of speed and direction that keep the defense off-balance. Miller is a better facilitator and McCollum is a better scorer, but they are still very similar players. If McCollum can improve his playmaking skills to help his teammates get involved, he could have as long of a career as Miller has had.

Strengths:

  • Can create his own offense
  • High basketball IQ
  • Excellent ball-handling skills
  • Decent all-around player, including defense

Weaknesses:

  • No elite explosiveness or leaping ability, but it’s decent
  • Draft Express says, “Not a natural facilitator”, but he’s been saying he is ready and willing to change his style of play to whatever is needed
  • Needs to work on the pick-and-roll for use at the pro level

How he fits with the Suns:

McCollum is in that second tier of players, slotted in at number eight overall and with the Suns picking fifth, they will probably go with someone else. However, he will crack a rotation next season and contribute on both ends of the court. In college at Lehigh he had to carry the team for years, so his potential is even higher with defenses not gearing their gameplans toward him night after night. Also, McCollum will benefit from the higher pace displayed in the pro game.
