The Suns look to rebound from Tuesday night’s loss to the Chicago Bulls. Taj Gibson led the Bulls with 19 points and 10 rebounds while Joakim Noah added 16 points and 16 rebounds. The Suns struggled from the beyond the arc; shooting only 26 percent on 6 of 23 shots.
The 20-13 Suns travel to the Target Center to face the 17-17 Minnesota Timberwolves Wednesday night in what will be the first meeting of the season for the teams. The Timberwolves have underachieved thus far this season with inconsistent play and trouble closing out games.
Channing Frye versus Kevin Love. Kevin Love is having another strong season. Love is averaging 29.7 points and 12.5 rebounds in the last 10 games. Love is clearly the man the Suns will need to stifle in order to win Wednesday night. Frye needs to bounce back from the forgettable games as of late and build from Tuesday night’s game where he had 11 points and seven rebounds.
Points per game. The Minnesota Timberwolves are second best in the league with 107.4 points per game this year. The Suns will need to play tight defensively coming off a game the night before. Fatigue will be a factor so the Suns will need a big game from the Morris brothers and Tucker in order to stop Love inside the paint.
What the Suns offense needs to look for:
The Suns had a terrible night from beyond the arc. They’ll need to shoot higher than 23 percent if they want to have a shot against the Timberwolves.
What the Suns defense needs to look out for:
Double-team Kevin Love. For all the hype on Ricky Rubio he is on pace to have one the worst shooting seasons in quite a while. Rubio is shooting 38.4 percent from the field and the Suns should allow him to shoot all night long. This should give Dragić the opportunity to double-team Love and try to disrupt his game.
Minnesota Timberwolves sleeper to have a good game:
Dante Cunningham has proven to be a solid player off the bench. Cunningham had another solid outing the other night against the Sixers. Cunningham had 10 points on five of nine shooting from the field. He has remained consistently accurate from the field throughout his career and could be the difference against a tired Suns team Wednesday night.
Prediction: The Suns hold on to beat the Timberwolves 100-95.
