The week in review: December 30-January 7
This is the inaugural edition of “the week in review” where I summarize the previous week and the upcoming week and predict how the Suns will do.
Let’s get to it!
The Suns finished 2013 with an absolute man-handling of the Los Angeles Clippers, winning by 19, but had been up by 29 for significant time, turning the entire fourth quarter into garbage time. That was a pivotal victory for Phoenix, because it was in Los Angeles, helping the Suns get that much closer to winning the tiebreaker and perhaps finishing the year with the Pacific Division title and therefore a top-four seed in the competitive Western Conference.
The Suns started the New Year on a sour note however, as they lost in disappointing fashion to the Memphis Grizzlies at home by eight points. This was basically just a bad matchup, as Memphis has a multitude of defensive guards and wing players that wreaked havoc on the Suns, who also couldn’t stop Zach Randolph at all.
Phoenix got back on track in their next game with a 16-point victory. It always helps a team in all facets of the game when they get to play the Milwaukee Bucks at home.
With Bledsoe injured off-and-on and Phoenix wanting to upgrade their roster, the Suns have decided to bring in former fan favorite Leandro “the Brazilian Blur” Barbosa for at least a 10-day contract.
Then a bad shooting night ruined the beginning of the road trip in Chicago as the Suns lost to the Bulls minus Derrick Rose, Luol Deng, and Carlos Boozer.
In the coming week, the Suns face the Timberwolves, Grizzlies, Pistons and the New York Knicks to finish off the road trip. They should go at least 3-1 to finish off the road-trip.
