Well I wish all of planet Orange a happy, healthy, and cheerful Christmas and New Years! But when it comes to the Phoenix Suns there isn’t much Christmas spirit within the organization.

An embarrassment took place at the U.S Airways center in downtown Phoenix last night as the Los Angeles Clippers(21-6) ran the Phoenix Suns(11-17) out of their own building winning 103-77. The Clippers notched a win in Phoenix for the first time since April of 2007.

Suns head coach Alvin Gentry was ejected with a little over 2 minutes left in the 1st half after a dispute with referee Rodney Mott. ”I’ve got to do a better job of keeping my cool in that situation,” Gentry said. “He (Rodney Mott) thought I deserved two technical fouls so that’s the way it is.”

The Suns were dominated last night by no other than Chris Paul who led the way for Lob City posting 17 points, 13 assists, and 5 steals in 29 minutes of play. Blake Griffin added 23 points, 11 rebounds, and 4 steals; Jamal Crawford, and former Sun Matt Barnes combined for 37 points on 13 of 19 shooting off the bench.

Dec. 23, 2012; Phoenix, AZ, USA; Los Angeles Clippers guard Chris Paul (3) and guard Jamal Crawford (11) talk on the court during the game against the Phoenix Suns in the second half at US Airways Center.
“Chris Paul was a one-man wrecking crew on defense,” Dudley said. “He took us completely out of our offense. Our turnovers and bad offense led to points. They’re a team you really can’t afford to do that to.”

One bright spot for the Suns has been Jared Dudley’s terrific play as of late. Dudley led the Suns with 19 points and 7 rebounds. Dragic on the other hand struggled for the 2nd straight game but this was by far Dragic’s worst game as a Sun. Dragic posted merely 7 points and only 1 assist in 29 minutes of action; Dragic and Chris Paul played just about minute for minute but the production was polar opposite.

The Clippers lit the Suns up with 11 3-pointers on 21 attempts, and shot nearly 54% from the field on the game. The Suns on the hand shot 52% in the 1st quarter and in the remaining 3 quarters shot only 29% from the field as a team.

After the 1st quarter this seemed like it had all the marks of a competitive game as the Suns trailed only 24-28 after one, but in quarters 2 and 3 the Clippers out scored the Suns 63-36. The Clippers led 91-60 heading into the 4th quarter as Blake Griffin drilled a 3-pointer with time running out in the 3rd.

“We’re just taking care of business right now,” Griffin said. “To be honest, we’re not really concerned with ‘You haven’t won here since then’ or ‘You haven’t won this many games in a row.’

With this win the Clippers extend their winning streak to 13 which is the NBA season record and also their franchise record. The Suns on the other side of the pond are now on a 2 game losing streak when just a couple of days ago they had a 4 game winning streak; oh how quickly things change in NBA.

The Suns will host the New York Knicks at home on Wednesday before heading out on a 3-game road trip.

As expected Michael Beasley got pulled from the starting line-up and he responded positively by arguably playing his best game of the season. Beasley logged 30 minutes on Saturday afternoon, scored 21 points on 7 of 11 shooting, pulled down 4 rebounds and dished out 5 assists, but that effort was in vain.

The Phoenix Suns(7-14) fell the Los Angeles Clippers(13-6) at the Staples Center today 99-117. The score doesn’t exactly show how competitive this game was, in fact the Clippers had only a 85-83 lead after 3 quarters and throughout the first 3 quarters neither team owned more than a 7 point lead.

The Clippers were led by Blake Griffin who scored 24 points on 10 of 17 shooting, got himself 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals; Chris Paul added 16 points and 11 assists. However it was their bench players who ultimately brought this win home for the Clippers. Clipper’s 6th man Jamal Crawford came into the 4th quarter and scored 7 straight points to begin the quarter and led the Clippers on a 17-4 run to begin the 4th; Crawford scored 11 points during that run, 13 overall in the 4th.

After that huge run by Lob City, the Suns who trailed only 83-85 heading into the 4th quarter now found themselves down 102-87 with 7:11 left to go in regulation and that was pretty much all she wrote. The Suns never got closer than 11 points after that point.

December 8, 2012; Los Angeles, CA, USA; Phoenix Suns small forward Michael Beasley (0) attempts a three point basket against the Los Angeles Clippers during the first half at Staples Center. Mandatory Credit: Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

Look I said this in the game preview, the Suns cannot afford to turn the ball over! And what did they do? They coughed up the ball 20 times against the Clippers which led to 30 Clipper points!

The Suns have now lost 6 straight games, and the last time they lost 6 straight games was back in March of 2009. Marcin Gortat was once again a non-factor as he posted only 6 points and 3 rebounds on the game, his production as of late is slowly killing his trade value.

The Suns won’t have much time to catch a breath as they’re flying back to Phoenix right now as this article is being written and they will begin preparing for the Orlando Magic who are coming to town tomorrow. The last time these two teams played the Suns got dominated 115-94, obviously the Suns along with Planet Orange are hoping for polar opposite results this time around.
