John Lucas scored 24 points, Ricky Pierce added 22 off the bench, Terry Cummings added 15 and Jack Sikma 14 as the Milwaukee Bucks beat the Suns in Phoenix 115-107 to improve to 35-21. The Bucks came back from a 6-point deficit in the first quarter to outscore the Suns 52-39 over the following two periods of the game. Turnovers proved to be very costly for the Phoenix club during that span, they were 26 at the end.

Walter Davis led the Suns with 27 while Larry Nance added 21 points and 9 rebounds. Alvan Adamns added 12 off the bench in the losing effort. Phoenix is now 22-32 already thinking “next year” and Coach MacLeod seems to be sitting on a very hot seat, getting hotter by the day.

It Was 1987 !

Can you believe the last time the Milwaukee Bucks beat the Suns in Phoenix was February 21st, 1987. Yes, you read it right, 1987.

That year the Dow Industrial Average closed over 2,000 for the first time in history. In 1987 the US had quite a few problems with Iran while The Simpsons made their TV debut. I guess Happy Days was still on!

The starting 5s of the two teams looked like this: Lucas, Cummings, Sikma, Moncrief, Pressey for the Bucks (I guess they wouldn’t mind to dress those five even nowadays up in Wisconsin); Nance, Davis, Sanders, Humphries and Pinckney for the Suns who also had Jeff Hornacek as a rookie.

In case you wonder the NBA season ended with the Lakers winning their 4th title in a decade beating the Celtics in 6 games. KJ was about to become a Suns in few months time.

According to ESPN there’s even a longer such streak going on as it appears the Warriors haven’t won in San Antonio in 25 tries but of course, being on the same Conference they play each other 4 times a year, so it’s roughly 7 years or so. But 1987, come on!

Yours truly,

Luca, The Steve Fan (24 years and counting…)
