It was reported earlier today that Phoenix Suns guard Shannon Brown and his wife Monica are expecting their first child as a married couple. Monica who’s a famous R&B singer has been pregnant for five months as she tweeted a couple of days ago “5 months & counting”.

This will be Monica’s third child as she has two kids from her previous relationship before marrying Brown while this will be Brown’s second child.

It’s great to see that Shannon Brown is receiving some good news for a change after he spent nearly the entire post all-star break rotting on the Suns bench.

Brown is still under contract with the Suns throughout the 2013-2014 season and considering the fact that Lance Blanks is already out the door and Lindsey Hunter is all but out the door, Brown is expected to remain in Phoenix and should carve out a role in the rotation next season.

Eric’s Comments:

It is really unfortunate that Shannon Brown fell out of the rotation in favor of Wesley Johnson. Management had to see what they had with Johnson and thrust him into the minutes vacuum that was created when Brown was banished to the end of the bench, headed for months of DNP-CDs. He didn’t do anything to deserve it, it even seemed like he was on his way to a pretty good season (relative to the team), when he was practically benched for the second half of the season.

All Suns fans love how Brown goes up for those high-flying fast-break dunks, where he seems to float in the air for a while, before slamming the ball down with ferocity. However, Brown needed to be more efficient and one of my pet peeves with him was that he faded away on some of his jumpers, over and over. When he didn’t fade away he would usually make it, but he was off-balance and the shots wouldn’t go down. If he had been more efficient, he might not have been benched.

Grade: B

Matt’s Comments:

I feel for Shannon Brown, I really do. Brown was subjected to bench warmer duties after the all-star break due to no fault of his own; Brown was just simply a casualty on a losing team. Interim head Coach Lindsey Hunter wanted to give Wesley Johnson a test drive to see what Johnson could do, and it turns it out Johnson wasn’t a huge upgrade.

Brown handled his situation with high levels of professionalism throughout and one has to respect him for that. All in all, Brown didn’t have a bad season but he didn’t have a good one either. His 28% three-point percentage was awful and the rest of his numbers were more or less the same compared to last season.

Grade: B-
