March 23, 2013; San Jose, CA, USA; California Golden Bears guard Allen Crabbe (23) reacts after the third round of the NCAA basketball tournament against the Syracuse Orange at HP Pavilion.
Height: 6’6”

Weight: 197 lbs

Wingspan: 6’11.25”

Max Vertical Leap: 36”

NBA Comparison:

Courtney Lee. Both Crabbe and Lee are almost the same size with long arms. Crabbe is also destined to become a complementary role player that has the potential to defend and can shoot very well, but isn’t elite or exceptional at any particular skill, which limits his ceiling at the pro level.

Strengths:

Excellent shooter including three pointers and catch and shoot

Jumpshot has all essential mechanics, high release point, speed for good shooter

Longs arms that help in defending other wing players

Weaknesses:

Below average ball handling

Needs to work on court vision and passing instincts

Needs to work on finishing in the paint with contact

How he fits with the Suns:

When Crabbe was in college at California his expertise as a catch and shoot player weren’t able to be utilized to their full potential because he was a focal point of their offense, which enabled the defenses to focus their defensive strategy on him. The Suns almost certainly won’t have a draft pick anywhere close to where Crabbe will go to gain any value by taking him and wouldn’t even if they did, since he isn’t a playmaker. However, for a playoff team he would fit in nicely and shine more than in college with the defense focused elsewhere.

Reggie Bullock (small forward/shooting guard)

Mar 22, 2013; Kansas City, MO, USA; North Carolina Tar Heels guard Reggie Bullock (35) drives to the basket against Villanova Wildcats guard James Bell (32) in the first half during the second round of the 2013 NCAA tournament at the Sprint Center. Mandatory Credit: Peter G. Aiken-USA TODAY Sports

Height: 6’7”

Weight: 200 lbs

Wingspan: 6’8.75”

Max Vertical Leap: 36.5”

NBA Comparison:

Jared Dudley. Neither player has super athleticism, but Bullock has a little more size and athletic ability. Both players have a significantly better than average jumpshot that extends to the three-point arc. Both players are known as at least average to good defenders, especially for their athleticism. Both Dudley and Bullock aren’t going to be superstars and probably not All-Stars, but Dudley is and Bullock could be starters in the league which is better than the rest of us.

Strengths:

Great perimeter shooter

Rebounds the ball well for his size

Potential for elite defensive ability

Weaknesses:

Not elite level explosive or athletic, but decent

Not much creativity on offensive end

Not great lateral quickness

How he fits with the Suns:

Again, Suns need a playmaker and they already have Dudley, so Bullock would be redundant. Also, he would go in the late (but not end) of the first round, where Phoenix doesn’t have a pick. He should be a good pick-up for a playoff or championship contending team as a serviceable role player. With a team like Memphis that needed some perimeter shooting to combine with Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol down low, Bullock could make a significant contribution.
