The ultimate Phoenix Suns castaway team comes into Phoenix to meet their former star PG. Classic storyline. Classic rivalry. Not even close.

The Suns will be playing the Mavs for the fourth time this season, coming off a <del>heartbreaking</del> expected loss against Oklahoma City last night. Marcin Gortat had a career high, et cetera, et cetera. Unfortunately, he, Steve Nash and Jared Dudley also played 40 minutes each, coming into this back end of a back to back. This can’t be good, especially for old man Nash.

The Mavs, however, are going through a bad stretch of five losses in a row. Part Lamar Odom, part fatigue, part no-Tyson Chandler, the Mavs don’t seem like the team they were. They look to win with the Suns, but it might not be as easy as last time.

Marcin Gortat burned the Mavs twice this season already. And that was before the rest of the team started stepping up. While yes, they failed against OKC, the best team in the Western Conference, there’s nothing on the Mavs that can stop them from stepping up tonight. Hopefully, Alvin Gentry recognizes the dominant force that Marcin Gortat is capable of being when put in the right position and will continue to feed him the ball, and subsequently open things up for his teammates.

Speaking of centers, Mavs center Brendan Haywood is questionable for tonight, and while Brendan Wright and Ian Mahinmi are serviceable backups, one might question their ability to stay in the game. Mahinmi had a lot of trouble defending the pick and roll in the first matchup, and that was back when Gortat was wearing a splint. Don’t expect him to be any better against a motivated Gortat, riding a high of ridiculously good play.

However, with a second night of a back-to-back for Phoenix, I’m going to tell you what I always tell people for Suns game. It’s certainly possible, but don’t count on it. Would be nice if the Suns won this last matchup of the season for… Honour… I guess.

Marc Gasol: F
I started with Marc Gasol for a reason. It was his knee that took Steve Nash out of this absolutely winnable game.
Marcin Gortat: A+
Gortat played as well as he usually does. That’s all there needs to be said. Oh, and he proved he can score in the post. The problem? He didn’t get the ball nearly enough. Oh, and he had 4 blocks to go along with a double double.
Jared Dudley B+
I love Jared’s newly found passing skills. He may have had only 3 assists, but if you watched the game, it would become obvious that Dudley passing from the high post was the go to move.
Grant Hill: B
We should be glad Grant is back from his senile moment. That is all.
Sebastian Telfair: B
Bassy played a good game. I’m shocked. He pressured the ball, made shots (including 3 of 4 from beyond the arc) and most importantly, led the team in assists with six while only committing one turnover. If this is how he’s going to play every day, I’ll shut up.
Ronnie Price: C
Ronnie is not a scorer. That’s probably why he ended up with 2 points. He’s also not a perfect passer thus the 3 TOs. But he plays his heart out, and dimes rather OK. 5 dimes is just fine.
Josh Childress: C
Josh committed a lot of fouls (5) and 3 turnovers. But he also scored 9 points on 4-6 shooting including a *gasp* three pointer and hustled everywhere he went. Give him minutes Alvin!
Markieff Morris: C-
He missed a lot of shots, but he also played ‘til the sorry end. Don’t mind that one bit.
Shannon Brown: C-
Made some shots, missed some shots, but most importantly didn’t take as much as he usually does.
Michael Redd: C-
He only played six minutes, but he made some shots, which is always nice.
Robin Lopez: D+
Robin blocked two shots, grabbed two rips and got 2 points. Hell, maybe he even thought he had a triple-double. Meh.
Hakim Warrick: F
1-5 for 2 points. Need I say more?
Channing Frye: F
He only hit one shot, again. I know he got to the line, but… Our starting power forward has to grab at least ONE REBOUND in 20 minutes of play… Just… ArgghhhhhI started with Marc Gasol for a reason. It was his knee that took Steve Nash out of this absolutely winnable game.
