It came out today that, The New Orleans Hornets are still open to trading shooting guard Eric Gordon this summer, according to ProBasketballTalk at NBC Sports.com.

The 24-year-old almost came to the valley of the sun last off-season, when he signed a massive offer sheet from the Suns, which was matched by the Hornets, who had precedence because Gordon was a restricted free agent for the Louisiana organization.

The 6’3” guard was acquired by New Orleans via the Chris Paul trade with the Los Angeles Clippers and when signed before this season got a huge contract (owed more than $13 million this season) and hasn’t been healthy.

He played nine games last season and has gotten only 37 games under his belt this year, with a handful left on the schedule.

However, the Suns have a reputation of employing the best medical staff in the league, and if they can help Jermaine O’Neal, Grant Hill and Steve Nash play at a high level, then they can help a youngster like Gordon get and stay healthy.

Gordon is a star and that is what Phoenix needs. When he is playing and engaged, instead of having a verbal altercation with his coach, he is a very good player. Just watching shows that. Sunday, he scored 17 points against the Suns, along with six assists and a couple steals, despite the recent “spat” with his head coach that got him benched and coming off of not playing for a long time.

But what would Phoenix need to give up to acquire Gordon?

Seth Pollack of Bright Side of the Sun.com says that it is probably Jared Dudley and the late first-round lottery draft pick that we will receive via the Los Angeles Lakers.

To me, that sounds like it is in the right ballpark, but with the injury history, issues with the coach and the big contract, New Orleans may just want him out of town.

Fortunately, the Suns have the money, the star medical personnel, and the ability to hire a coach that he wants if the Suns want to make him a cornerstone of the franchise, along with Goran Dragic.

This is just one blockbuster trade waiting to happen that gets fueled before the season is even over. There are many more to come. This is going to be a fun off-season!

After the Suns drafted Kendall Marshall 13th overall in this year’s draft then went on to sign former Suns point guard Goran Dragic to a 4yr/30M dollar deal it leaves Suns’ back-up point guard Sebastian Telfair the odd man out.

Telfair’s performance last year showed that he’s very capable of being a quality back-up and since he probably won’t be getting any playing time in Phoenix; the Suns will probably look to move him.

The possible trade partners for the Suns right now are the Orlando Magic who are in need of a back-up point guard. The Washington Wizards could also be looking for a back-up point guard to back up John Wall. Another team could be the Indiana Pacers who missing a back-up point guard behind George Hill.

A rumor floated around on ESPN’s NBA rumor section today that Orlando is indeed in search of a back-up point and Telfair was listed as a possible target for Orlando along with Dallas’ Rodrigue Beaubois, Minnesota’s Luke Ridnour, Utah’s Earl Watson and Jamaal Tinsley. Telfair is the 3rd most productive of those guys behind Ridnour, and Beaubois however Telfair comes cheaper than those two guys and Dallas may not be willing let Beaubois go cheap at this point.
